The
New York Knicks locked up guard
Iman Shumpert for 2014-15, picking up his fourth-year option Monday.
Shumpert will make $1.7 million in the upcoming season and $2.6 million the following season. He would be eligible for free agency following the 2014-15 season, though the Knicks could make him a qualifying offer that would make him a restricted free agent.
Shumpert missed the first half of last season following knee surgery. In 45 games in 2012-13, Shumpert averaged 6.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 22.1 minutes per game. As a rookie in 2011-12, he averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 28.9 minutes per game.
Despite missing practice Monday due to general soreness, Shumpert is expected to start the season opener Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden, coach Mike Woodson said. The team's other top shooting guard, J.R. Smith, will miss the first five games as he serves a league-imposed suspension for a drug violation.
